Project Overview
Equipped the research platform with a SM20 research-grade stereo microscope (20:1 zoom ratio), paired with a fibre-optic cold light source and digital camera for macro observation, detail inspection and image documentation.
Laboratory work at the CDC covers morphological examination of pathogenic micro-organisms, parasites, water and food samples. Sample scales vary widely, from cultures and parasites viewed at low magnification to cellular details that require high magnification. With a 20:1 continuous zoom ratio, the SM20 covers the whole range on one instrument and removes the need to keep changing objectives.
Installation, commissioning and optical alignment were completed for the research platform, together with training on parfocality during zooming, choice of illumination, sample placement and observation points. The system is used for routine sample screening and morphological confirmation.
