Institute of Plant Protection, Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences microscopy case study

Project Overview

Delivered a AE31E FL inverted fluorescence microscope with a digital imaging system to the institute's research platform, for microscopic observation, fluorescence imaging and image capture of cultured and living specimens.

Research at the Institute of Plant Protection focuses on crop diseases and pests. Typical targets include pathogen spores, mycelium, insect tissue, leaf and root sections, and GFP-labelled transgenic material. An inverted microscope places the sample from above, which suits live material in dishes and flasks and allows repeated observation without slide preparation or damage to the sample.

The MOTIC AE31E FL supplied is an inverted fluorescence microscope covering both brightfield and fluorescence observation. Fluorescence light paths and filter cubes were calibrated on delivery, and demonstration and training covered spore counting, hyphal morphology and screening of fluorescent markers. Local engineers handle light-path cleaning and light source maintenance.
