The 'Chinese Microscopy' Behind BGI's Spatiotemporal Omics Research: PA53 Scanning Microscope Adopted by a Top Team

According to an official announcement from Motic, BGI Research (Shenzhen) (a research institution under BGI Group) has adopted the Motic PA53 scanning series microscope as a key imaging tool in spatiotemporal transcriptomic research.

Spatiotemporal transcriptomics combines high-resolution spatial position information with transcriptome sequencing technology to decipher the spatial distribution of gene expression in tissues. BGI Research is one of the leading drivers of this field; in 2022, together with a number of scientists, it published results in the journal Cell, creating the spatially enhanced resolution omics-sequencing technology Stereo-seq and mapping the spatiotemporal transcriptome atlas of mouse organogenesis.

These achievements would not have been possible without the support of high-performance microscopes. The PA53 scanning series offered researchers a window into the microscopic world—whether resolving the fine structures of biological samples or visualizing gene-expression products, both rely on its excellent optical performance and precise imaging capability. As a digital slide scanning platform independently developed by Motic, the series can scan glass slides and seamlessly stitch them to generate full-field digital slides, and is widely used in fields such as biological sample analysis, gene expression, and detection.

From gene sequencing to morphological imaging, domestic scientific instruments are joining forces to support frontier breakthroughs in the life sciences. As an officially authorized Motic partner, our company will continue to provide this product series and professional services to research users.
